Top Ten Ways of Knowing you’re Addicted to Dragon Boating (for festival team participants):
1. You randomly and unexpectedly say “Paddles Up” to strangers.
2. You wonder how much a dragon boat costs and if you could buy one.
3. You practice your dragon boat stroke in the bathtub.
4. After Googling dragon boating, you learn that about 50 million people in 61 countries (even South Africa) participate in the sport.
5. You think, “Hmmm, dragon boating in South Africa….”
6. During a break at work, you go to every available dragon boater in your office and have them line up in chairs to “practice.”
7. A canoe on the water looks like a dragon boat. But no, they’re J-stroking. You repeat to yourself over and over, “J-stroke is bad.”
8. When you’re with other dragon boaters, you find yourselves talking about who knows the best secret to all 20 paddlers perfecting the technique and timing.
9. You discover there is no secret, just the addiction of finding it.
10. While on vacation in South Africa you spot a dragon boat festival. When you get there, you demand to be put on a team.
