Dragon boat racing gives 20-plus team members a unique experience and opportunity to raise funds for charity. It combines the community spirit surrounding the inherent nature of the sport with the desire to win on the water and in the pledge raising contest.
Dynamic Events & Management LLC partnered with non-profits to produce three dragon boat festivals in 2008, resulting in $256,000 raised for charity. In seven years, charities have netted more than $686,000 at DEM produced dragon boat festivals.
Many non-profit organizations have successfully raised funds through a dragon boat festival. The Chattanooga festival, produced by DEM, netted more than $115,000 from pledge-raising for the local children’s hospital in April. Dragon boating has become enormously popular in the U.S. in recent years. More than 100 dragon boat festivals land annually in various venues throughout the country. The sport was featured in torch ceremonies to commemorate the Olympics. Dragon boating is the only sport that requires a true team effort and is all inclusive for most anyone, at practically any age and any fitness level.
